I (Orcid:0000-0002-9259-5288) have started my academic career as a Graduate Assistant at the former Faculty of Medicine, Addis Ababa University (AAU) since August 1980 soon after my graduation with B. Pharm from AAU. Since then, I earned an MSC and PhD  degrees in Pharmacology from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and passed through different academic ranks till, I became a full professor of Pharmacology in February 2003. I had served as the Head of Department of Pharmacology and as Coordinator of Biomedical Research and Training Program, the former Faculty of Medicine, AAU for several years. I had advised and is still advising over 114 MSc and 34 PhD students. I have published over 267 peer reviewed scientific papers and books/book chapters as well as over 180 monographs/training modules. My areas of research are mainly on clinical trials and phytotherapy.  I have served and still serving as external examiner for both undergraduate and post graduate students (MSc and PhD) in local universities and abroad. I have received several research grants from different organizations I have executed and is executing over 26 research projects. I have served as a member of National Drug Advisory Committee of Ethiopia for six years. I serve as a member of editorial boards in several National and International peer reviewed journals. I am the recipient of Gold Medal award for being an outstanding student of the year 1980, School of Pharmacy, AAU; prize of KERKA Pharmaceuticals, Slovenia for my MSc thesis stood first; Gold Medal for Research and Development from the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Association (EPA); Gold Medal High Honor Laureate (Abyssinia Award); Drugs for Neglected Disease initiative Award for recognition as a founding member of Leishmaniasis in East Africa Platform (LEAP) and Appreciation of 20 years dedicated service to LEAP; Life Time Service Award (Medal and Certificate) from College of Health Sciences, AAU, Meritorious Gold Medal Award of EPA and many others including certificates of merits/appreciation from several organizations in my area of expertise.  I have served as a member and Chairperson of the National Health Science and Technology council and National Health Research Ethics Review Committee for over 10 years, and am still serving as a member of National Research Ethics Review Board. I am heavily involved in offering trainings on Good Clinical Practice, Bioethics and clinical trials. I have as a chair and member of Data Safety Monitoring Board for many multicenter clinical trials both local and international. I am a fellow of the Ethiopian Academy of Science and has served as a member of the academy Health Working Group. I am currently serving as a chair of the Advisory Committee on Clinical Trials in Ethiopia. I am a Deputy Head of the World Bank Supported Centre for Innovative Drug Development and Therapeutic Trials for Africa (CDT-Africa), CHS, AAU, Ethiopia on top of my routine activities in the department of Pharmacology and Clinical pharmacy.
